1. Major Himalayan Peaks
The Himalayas are the highest mountain range in the world. Several high peaks lie within India's borders:
K2 / Godwin Austen
It is the highest peak in India (8,611 meters). It is part of the Karakoram Range, currently located in Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (PoK).
Kanchenjunga
It is the highest peak situated fully within Indian territory (8,586 meters). It is located in Sikkim on the border of India and Nepal.
Nanda Devi
It is the second-highest peak completely within India (7,816 meters). It is located in the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand.
2. Peaks of Central and Southern India
Aravalli Peak - Gurushikhar
The Aravalli range is one of the oldest fold mountain systems in the world. Its highest peak is Gurushikhar (1,722 meters), located in the Sirohi district of Rajasthan.
Satpura Peak - Dhupgarh
The highest peak of the Satpura range is Dhupgarh (1,350 meters). It is located in Pachmarhi, Madhya Pradesh.
South India Peak - Anaimudi
It is located on the Anaimalai Hills with an elevation of 2,695 meters. It is the highest peak in the entire peninsular region (South India).
Nilgiri Peak - Doddabetta
The highest peak of the Nilgiri hills is Doddabetta (2,637 meters). It is the second-highest peak in South India.
